Virtual Mahotsavam / Week #10 - Bharatanatyam & Kuchipudi performance by Dr.Sindhura Pisipati on 09/05/20

Bio of Dr. Sindhura Pisipati

 

Dr.Sindhura Pisipati is a resident physician at the University of Missouri Kansas City. She completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram under the guidance of Guru Smt Sushmita Arunkumar in 2008 and also completed her Kuchipudi Rangapravesam under the guidance of Dr. Sangita Rangala in 2015. She has since been performing both art forms and also continues to learn from various Gurus such as Smt. Kalpana Jayanthi and Smt. Jayanthi Subramaniam. Her ultimate goal is to spread the joy of dance to everyone around her.

Bio of Ms Madhvi Venkatesh


Madhvi Venkatesh is a dancer and educator who specializes in the Indian classical dance form Bharata Natyam. She trained for over ten years with Viji Prakash and subsequently refined her art under the guidance of various esteemed Bharata Natyam stalwarts such as: Guru T.K. Kalyanasundaram, Harikrishna Kalyanasundaram, Indira Kadambi and Sreelatha Vinod. She has performed as a soloist in the U.S. and India and has toured with the Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh, Shakti, and Prakriti Dance Companies.

Madhvi continues to perform as a soloist and a member of Prakriti Dance, an innovative performing company that she co-founded in 2014. She also raises awareness about and appreciation for Bharata Natyam by doing workshops, master classes, and performances at schools and community organizations. She has received recognition and support for her dance pursuits from various organizations including the National YoungArts Foundation, Maryland State Arts Council, and the Alliance for California Traditional Arts.

Bio of Ms Ramya S. Kapadia


Ramya S. Kapadia is a Durham-based Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, instructor and a Carnatic vocalist (South Indian classical dance & music forms). She received initial training in Bharatanatyam from Smt. Santha Gopinath of Kalakshetra and later from Smt. Kripa Baskaran, Brookfield, WI. Her vocal training began under her mother Smt. Gayathri Sundaresan, advanced by Late Guru V. Vamanan, Mumbai, India. Ramya has toured all over the United States & abroad to present solo & group works. She regularly provides vocal accompaniment to dancers around the world and composes music for their productions. Ramya has dabbled in a bit of Indie-pop and Indo-Jazz music during her undergraduate years in Mumbai. During that time, she also lent her voice to Indian commercials and movies - “Kaho na Pyar Hai” & the Tamil-Telugu bilingual movie “180”.

Ramya has Master’s degrees in Medical Physics and Neuroscience and pursues the arts full time now. She runs the Natyarpana School of Dance & Music in Durham, NC, through which she shares the rich traditions of Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam with the youth of the Triangle Area. She is also the Assistant Artistic Director of Maryland- based Prakriti Dance.

She received the Ella Pratt Emerging Artist Award from the Durham Arts Council in 2010 and the Choreography Fellowship from the North Carolina Dance Alliance in 2016. Currently she is on the Advisory Committee of the “Dance at the Van Dyke” series at Greensboro Dance Project.

Ramya believes that art can and should tell stories that move audiences to becoming better and more compassionate human beings. The collaborators in her works are artists, scientists, literary scholars and philosophers who all share her vision of creating a better world through art. She is grateful to her many mentors for providing her with rich and varied experiences in the arts.

Bio of Sri Anirudh Venkatesh


Anirudh Venkatesh formally began learning Carnatic music from Smt. Padma Kutty in the fall of 1996, shortly after turning 5 years old. He has continued learning with Smt. Padma Kutty, but has also had the opportunity to learn from the distinguished gurus Smt. Sugandha Kalamegham and Sri Seetharama Sharma. In 2002, he was initiated into the Semmangudi Bani by Sri Palai C.K. Ramachandran. Since 2005, Anirudh has been training under the illustrious Padmabhushan Sri P.S. Narayanaswamy.

Anirudh is a regular performer in many of Chennai's prestigious sabhas during the Chennai December Season festival, and has performed in several other cities in India and abroad. In 2012, he received the Thanjavur S. Kalyanaraman Endowment Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai, for a merit-worthy concert he sang in the sabha's 2011 Gokulashtami Festival Concert Series. He was also featured in the Madras Music Academy's 2012 Spirit of Youth Festival, (for which he was awarded "Best Male Vocalist"), the Madras Music Academy's 2013 HCL Concert Series (for which he won "Best Concert"),  and in the Academy's 88th, 92nd, and 93rd Annual December Concert Series. Anirudh studied Computer Science at Stanford University and is currently working as a Software Engineer at Snap Inc. in Los Angeles, CA.

Bio of Dr. Yamini Saripalli






Yamini Saripalli is a disciple of the late gurus Dr.Vempati Chinna Satyam and his son, Sri Vempati Ravi Shankar. Yamini trained for two decades under her gurus and the esteemed faculty at the Kuchipudi Art Academy - Chennai. She has also received additional mentoring from Smt.Vanaja Ayyalaraju and Smt.Kalpana Jayanthi, both senior disciples of Dr.Vempati. Yamini has performed with Dr. Vempati's troupe in the United States as well as throughout India.

As a solo artist, Yamini has performed at various esteemed venues throughout the United States, India, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. She is also regular performer in the Chennai Dance and Music Season.

Yamini received training in Carnatic vocal music under the late gurus Sri Bhagavatula Seetharama Sarma, Kalapeetham, Chennai, India and Sri DK Nagarajan.

Yamini’s vision for Kuchipudi is to present high quality performances and lecture demonstrations, as well as conduct Kuchipudi workshops to ensure the continuation of this art form for future generations.

She passionately and relentlessly pursues excellence and the highest of standards in her art form.
