Information and guidelines for participants

Mission:

To provide opportunities for students of the rich, multifaceted Indian classical arts traditions to showcase their talents in an encouraging and nurturing avenue and to enrich students’ perspective on these traditions through lecture demonstrations by Gurus of the artforms and by professional performing artists.

Vision:

A sabha atmosphere where the Greater Richmond Indian music and dance community as well as art lovers can come and enjoy and nurture the talents of budding artists in the community.

Guidelines:

  • This is an opportunity for intermediate and advanced students of traditional Indian Classical art forms to show their mastery of their respective art forms.

  • Solo performances are preferred and strongly encouraged, as they allow for individual performers to express their voice and their unique capabilities.

  • This performance series will not include fusion, semi-classical, folk, or film music performances. This is not to undermine those art forms, but to provide a space where classical art forms can flourish.

Information:

  • Performances will be held on the fourth Saturday of most months (February through November) from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Richmond Sai Temple (barring conflicts with Temple events).

  • Online applications will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Performances are free and open to the public.

  • Facilities:

    • Performances will be held in the Great Hall of the Richmond Sai Temple.

    • AV and lighting will be set up by volunteers of the Sri Sai Narayana organization.

    • For pre-recorded music, the AV system has a standard sized headphone jack available.

      • The recommendation is to download music to a tablet and have the tablet on airplane only mode.

      • If performing groups wish to use CDs, they must provide their own CD players to which the AV system headphone jack can connect.

      • Performers must provide their own resource to stop and start music.

    • Microphones will be provided for vocal performers, as well as up to two accompanists.

    • The entry / front desk area may not be used for decorations, guestbooks, brochures, etc.

    • The stage may not be used for any custom decorations as this is a performance under the ICAPS banner.

    • Food distribution will not be allowed as part of the ICAPS performance.

  • This is a free event put together by Sri Sai Narayana Organization, not a fundraising event or a ticketed event. However, there will be a nominal fee per performer to cover custodial expenses for the venue as well as long-term maintenance of equipment. Performances will be confirmed upon receiving this payment

  • If the event needs to be postponed for inclement weather, it will be moved to the following Saturday (barring conflicts with other SSNO events)

  • For more information, please e-mail icapsrichmond@gmail.com.

ICAPS performance format:
